A person who spiked treats with tranquilliser and provided them to minors at a youth camp in Leicestershire has pleaded guilty to sexual offences against two children aged nine and ten years old.

The defendant was arrested after eight minors and an older person experienced illness at Stathern Lodge in mid-summer.

The elderly man, from the Nottinghamshire area, admitted guilt to a total of 17 charges when he appeared at Leicester Crown Court on the end of the week.

However, he disputed one of the sexual offences he was accused of, which was concerning a nine-year-old child.

The accused was remanded in custody prior to a additional proceeding on November 28th.

'Sweet game'

The prosecutor, handling the case, outlined the criminal behavior to the judicial body.

She stated his victims were disadvantaged youngsters who were attending a summer program which he ran.

The man played a "sweet game" with the minors, Mrs Prior stated, in which he would go into the sleeping quarters when they were getting ready for bed and request they to consume candy "rapidly".

She told the court the defendant had conducted this practice with the young males "for many years", and minors had earlier experienced illness the subsequent day.

She explained the man had been successful in rationalizing this for many years as the youngsters being "overstimulated by activities", until his stepson had worries in July 2025.

The legal representative continued: "In the summer" his stepchild had worries about the situation, with valid cause.

"They resolved" to examine in the man's possessions."

Mrs Prior KC stated items including infant oil, petroleum jelly and syringes were discovered, and his stepchild alerted the law enforcement about his concerns.

She said the defendant proceeded to conduct the "treat game" with six boys that evening - Saturday 26 July - and they were all ill the following morning.

"Law enforcement" had not gone out by that time," she continued.

The regulatory agency, the Independent Office for Police Conduct, previously told that it was examining law enforcement's management of the events.

The legal representative stated the youngsters were having difficulty walking due to their condition, so Ruben's stepson contacted the authorities once more.

She said Ruben then engaged in the "candy game" in a space of five minors.
